One of our primary goals at USD 439 is to allow student’s be physically active, continue to improve themselves athletically, and get ready for the 2020-2021 school year. While at the same time, it is imperative that all programs maintain the COVID-19 guidelines from the Reopen Kansas initiative and the Harvey County Health Department. At this time, a safety plan has been submitted to the Harvey County Health Department for approval. Activities are slated to begin June 1st pending health department approval and no additional restrictions.
Once the district’s plan has the approval of the health department, school sponsored activities will begin to be scheduled per safety guidelines. Coaches have already started working on a system to get students back to working on their physical health. Coaches are planning orientations for students regarding safely using equipment, disinfecting equipment after use, maintaining social distancing, etc. Parents will also be provided safety information while their students are on campus.
It is important for parents and students to understand that participation is strictly on a volunteer basis and requires parental consent. USD 439 does not want to place anyone in a situation they are not comfortable with during this reopening time. A requirement to participate in summer activities is a Parental/Guardian Consent Form. The signed consent must be received before a student may begin participation. The permission form is available at this link Parent Consent Form. Forms are also at the district office
