Sedgwick Public Schools

Sedgwick Public Schools, USD 439, is a comprehensive kindergarten through twelfth grade, state accredited school system.  The student population hovers near 500 annually.  There are 38 certified teachers on staff, 21 special education staff members, three full-time administrators, and 38 classified personnel.

The entire kindergarten through twelfth grade population is housed on one campus:  R.L. Wright Elementary, Sedgwick High School, and a vocational education building.  The school district has an extensive networked computer system, including 500 wireless laptop computers, a one-to-one laptop computer initiative for the tenth through twelfth grade, and 100 iPads for kindergarten through sixth grade classrooms.  The high school and junior high are both members of the Heart of America League which supports and promotes academic and athletic programs for the ten member school districts.

The Sedgwick Site Council, School Improvement Team, Cardinal Pride in Action, Cardinal Backers, faculty, staff, and Board of Education work hand-in-hand to provide for our students a "positive link to educational success."

The City of Sedgwick was incorporated in 1872.  Sedgwick is located in the southern part of Harvey County just 15 minutes north of Wichita - close to the metroplex, but far enough away to hold a distinctive country charm.  The community itself is home to a population of 1600 residents.  Although the city is barely one mile square, the district is 42 square miles.

Community churches include:  Sedgwick United Methodist Church, Plymouth Congregational Church, Sedgwick Mennonite Church, First Christian Church, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Halstead.

Quality care for citizens needing assistance is provided by Diversicare Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center and Wickridge apartments, which provides housing for those on a fixed income. Sundance - Sedgwick, a senior housing complex, is also available.  Families looking to move to Sedgwick have newly built home choices through the Reserve or the Hilands on the east side of Sedgwick.

The Sedgwick Recreation Commission provides extra-curricular activities as well as operating a community exercise and wellness center.
